LDS Church Backing SLC Gay Rights Ordinance Smells

Big news is circulating on the blog sphere that the Mormon Church backs protection of gay rights in Salt Lake City,” as reported by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints owned and operated, Deseret News on Tuesday.

At a public hearing on an employment and housing ordinance, public affairs managing director Michael Otterson said, “The church supports this ordinance because it is fair and reasonable and does not do violence to the institution of marriage.”

LDS support of this ordinance is nothing more than a political strategy to divert attention from the growing Mormon public relations problem of its role in the systematic religious abuse on gays and lesbians.

In Otterson’s statement he suggests same-sex marriage does “violence to the institution of marriage” yet says nothing about violence the Mormon Church has perpetrated against gay and lesbian human beings for generations, and more recently, funding and directing discriminatory initiatives like California’s Prop 8 and Maine’s Question 1.

These same LDS public relations gurus, at the alleged direction of Church leaders, have carefully orchestrated a finely crafted a PR campaign that resulted in a popular vote in two states that by a small majority, that took civil rights away from a minority. Just how “fair and reasonable” is that Mr. Otterson?

Some may say Mormon support of the Salt Lake City ordinance is a step in the right direction; and although, if passed, is a good thing, I suggest as far as the LDS position on this is concerned, it is nothing more than staged publicity stunt and small thing to give up as part of the cost of doing their dirty business.

Keith Olbermann Slams Racist Bryan Fischer!

Bryan Fischer American Family Association Radio Host Wingnut Racist Idaho Values AllianceIn Keith Olbermann’s famous Worst Persons segment tonight the bronze was awarded to Worst’s regular gas bag Rush Limbaugh for trying to blame President Obama for Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan killing 13 and wounding 30 at the Fort Hood tragedy last week.

Then much to my delight, my favorite news man slams the former Idaho Values Alliance Executive Director and bigoted, homophobic, fraud, Bryan Fischer. (left)

“This is Dr. Hassan’s fault,” says Olbermann, “the rest of the world was trying to be patient enough to find out what the hell Hassan thought his motives were, and then try him in court, but not this idiot Limbaugh or these knee jerk racists like Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association who called for a purge of Muslims from the US military. They are busily trying for the Jack Ruby route.”

If you really want to know what kind of a wing-nut Bryan Fischer really is, below is a suggested reading list. My buddy H. Lukas Green and I regularly exposed this lying fraud over the last few years on our other news site PrideDEPOT.com.

Bryan Fischer & The Idaho Values Alliance
As Executive Director of the Idaho Values Alliance’s (IVA), Bryan Fischer, used IVA as a platform to spread lies, bullying and spew anti-gay propaganda to influence memebers of the Idaho State Legislature, Idaho Law and the public on legitimate LGBT civil rights issues. This teabagger, regularly calls LGBT people Nazis, fascists, child molesters and believes hate crime legislation protecting LGBT people from violence would actually protect pedophiles.

THE DANGER IN CELEBRATING HALLOWEEN: “Most of the candy for this season has been dedicated and prayed over by witches,” says Kimberly Danial’s who travels the country in a 30-foot Winnebago called the “Demon Buster.”

Oh it gets much much better. Watch the #1 story on Countdown last night with Lawrence O’Donnell, filling in for Keith Olbermann, is absolutely hilarious!

This is no trick, it’s a real treat!

Open Season On Hate

Yesterday when I got a text message that Barack Obama had just signed into law The Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Hate Crimes Prevention Act, I was elated. In my mind I could hear the collective cheering across the country. Finally now we are legally defined and bias-motivated crimes against LGBT people would now be recognized for what we have known them to be all along, hate crimes.

Although law enforcement is now empowered to investigate and prosecute bias-motivated violence against LGBT people, that still does not change the hearts and minds of those who still hate us, especially those who see us as objects for sport.

On my way to an appointment less than a half mile from my home, I see a Toyota jacked up to where I would need a latter just to get in. On the back cab window was a pink sticker that said ‘Navy Wife’. I think to myself, there is a proud woman who is supporting her husband and our military! That’s nice.

Then I see this other sticker. I can’t really make it out so I inch slowly closer so I can read it. The woman probably thought I was going to hit her. I start to make it out. I was in utter disbelief. I just could not believe my eyes, I think my mouth even fell open. This was so disturbing that just a short distance from the safety of my home, in my own neighborhood, this proud Navy wife would probably like to see me and many of the people I love dead! If not, even just the thought that this was somehow funny is chilling.

We still have so much work to do! The truck proudly displayed this sticker:

Thursday the Human Rights Commission and the Matthew Shepard Foundation announced the passage of the The Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Hate Crimes Prevention Act. The act, named to honor Matthew Shepard as well as James Byrd, an African-American resident of Texas brutally dragged to death in 1998 in a notorious hate crime. as a provision of the Defense Authorization Conference Report in 68 to 29 vote.

“Dennis and I are extremely proud of the Senate for once again passing this historic measure of protection for victims of these brutal crimes,” said Judy Shepard, president of the Matthew Shepard Foundation Board. “Knowing that the president will sign it, Continue reading

KTVB “Cruises” back to 1955. . .

Cruising is not a Sex Act as KTVB Channel 7 recently reported. Cruising is an activity aimed at capturing the attention of someone of the same sex. It can lead to a sexual encounter, but it can also be a non-verbal way to communicate to others that they are not alone.

In the 1970s, gay men established a color-coded technique called the “hanky code” as a way to find a sexual encounter. Today, it is looked at as nostalgic since it has become mainstream.

Further back in time, certain word-phrases would be meaningless to heterosexuals, but would signal a possible encounter between gay men. Long before the Stonewall Bar riots, a simple question such as “Do you have the time?” would be a signal. Another was to ask someone if they are “a friend of Dorothy.”

Yesterday PrideDEPOT.com received an email letter from Yvonne Simons, News Director of the local CBS affiliate KBCI Channel 2, shortly after she was contacted by the regional GLAAD office.

GLAAD received a complaint on KBCI’s coverage of a “gay sex sting” story in addition to reading our story, “KBCI TV-2 manufactures ‘gay news’ for ratings.” before contacting Simons. Below, Simons responds to PrideDEPOT.com’s story and our response to her directly follows.
