Jane Mayer was on “UP with Chris Hayes” yesterday talking about her latest article in The New Yorker The Voter Fraud Myth.
Watching her with Hayes, took me back to last May when Mayer, having read the piece I co-authored last year for the Southern Poverty Law Center about Bryan Fischer, called me for some insight and additional information on what I knew about Fischer’s activities when he was in Idaho. Continue reading

PODCAST: May-Chang Discusses Bryan Fischer on The Michelangelo Signorile Show
Podcast: Download (Duration: 20:37 — 28.3MB)
Honored to be a guest on the The Michelangelo Signorile Show Friday October 21, we discussed the Southern Poverty Law Center Report: “THE PROPAGANDISTS: Bryan Fischer, the American Family Association & the Demonization of LGBT People,” detailing Fischer’s radical extremism, and how he spent almost three decades in Idaho. In “THE PROPAGANDIST,” my co-author, Jill Kuraitis and I revealed Fischer’s rise to the national spotlight. This in-depth investigative piece on Fischer’s history in Idaho shows how mainstream Idahoans jump-started his controversial career.
Michelangelo Signorile served as editor-at-large and columnist at The Advocate, and was a columnist for OUT magazine. He was a co-founding editor of the headline-making news magazine OutWeek, which was at the center of the debates over “outing” in the 1990s. Signorile has authored several bestselling books, including the groundbreaking study of the gay “closet,” Queer in America, which firebrand playwright and gay activist Larry Kramer called “one of the most important books of the 20th century.” Signorile’s third book, Life Outside, was a 1998 finalist for the prestigious New York Public Library Book Award for Excellence in Journalism.
Apart from being a host at SiriusXM, Signorile is also a monthly columnist for The Advocate and has written for many other publications, including The New York Times, USA Today, The New York Observer, Gay.com, New York Magazine, and the Village Voice
Signorile’s show is heard on SiriusXM OutQ 108. As the only nationwide broadcasting service to serve the LGBT Community, thousands of people from all across the country tune in at any moment for breaking news, provocative discussion on current events and a great mix of entertainment programming. Bryan Fischer’s REAL Views on Mormonism
Although Fischer never directly called Mormonism a “cult,” he has inferred it by the many other things he has said.
The Fischer Files Report reveals the AFA radio host’s hypocrisy with an excerpt from a 2005 sermon when he was pastor of Community Church of the Valley. From the pulpit Bryan Fischer tells his flock exactly how he views the faith of his “friends” in the LDS Church.

Boise Journalists Write for SPLC National Report on Bryan Fischer
BOISE, ID – On Monday October 10 there will be a press conference in Tupelo, MS a 11:00am CDT where Mark Potok, Director of the Southern Poverty Law Center’s (SPLC) Intelligence Project will unveil an explosive new special report” “THE PROPAGANDISTS: Bryan Fischer, the American Family Association & the Demonetization of LGBT People.”
With an executive summary by Potok, The Propagandist was written for the SPLC by Idaho journalists Jody May-Chang and Jill Kuraitis. Other elements by the SPLC staff also contribute to the report.
The press conference will kick-off a Give Hate A Holiday demonstration and march. Events conclude with a public screening of the acclaimed documentary film Out In The Silence, exposing homophobia in the deep south.
Sponsored by the ACLU of Mississippi, Americans United for Separation of Church and State, Equality Federation and many other regional LGBT and progressive organizations, the goal is to raise visibility and public awareness on issues related to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Mississippi and throughout the South and rural America.
Why Tupelo? It is headquarters for the American Family Association, a political Christian extremist organization recently designated by the SPLC as a hate group. AFA’s hate group status is due in large part to Idaho’s not so favorite son, and former executive director of the Idaho Values Alliance, Bryan Fischer’s prolific anti-LGBT and anti-Muslim remarks.
Since leaving Idaho in July 2009, Fischer’s radio show is broadcasted daily across the country on 145 AFA owned Christian radio stations. Fischer has brought an incredibly vitriolic voice to the organization where he has continued to perpetuate such falsehoods like, Hitler and the Nazi’s were gay, and Mormons do not have freedom of religion.
After the report’s release, it will be available on the SPLC website splcenter.org and will appear in the Winter Issue of the Intelligence Report. Look for updates on The Propagandist posted here and on TheFischerFiles.com.
