Idaho Values Alliance Executive Director Bryan FisherBryan Fischer (left), Executive Director of the Idaho Values Alliance, a 501(c)(3) non-profit tax exempt organization, is widely known as the self anointed moral police for family values in Idaho. Fischer recently posted a rabidly homophobic article on his website. This brand of fiction, also reproduced on Alan Keys website Renew America, does nothing but perpetuate fear, loathing and hatred of LGBT people.

In the May 15th “story”, “The truth about homosexuality and the Nazi Party,” Fischer defends Scott Lively, author of ‘The Pink Swastika.’ Published in the mid-nineties, the book has been extensively debunked as anti-gay propaganda.

Why now, well Lively will be speaking at a Christian conservative religious conference here in Boise this weekend called “Shake the Nation.”

In an apparent response to comments made about Lively and his book by The Interfaith Alliance of Idaho, Fischer claims the “far-left” group accused Lively of “bearing false witness” and of being “mean-spirited and hurtful.”

Fischer’s discourse goes on to parrot Lively’s obsession with homosexuals and Nazi’s to Idaho conservatives.

“Lively’s crime? says Fischer, “In his book, ‘The Pink Swastika,’ Lively exposes a secret homosexual activists don’t want you to know about Nazi Germany: that although the Nazis did persecute homosexuals, the homosexuals the Nazis persecuted were almost exclusively the effeminate members of the gay community in Germany, and that much of the mistreatment was administered by masculine homosexuals who despised effeminacy in all its forms.”

With Lively’s book as Fischer’s only source material, he makes claims like, “the Nazi party began in a gay bar in Munich,” and that “Butch” homosexual guards and capos were capable of unrestrained cruelty, sadism and savagery. A guard at Auschwitz, for instance, strangled, crushed and gnawed to death as many as 100 boys and young men a day while raping them at his leisure.”

As if that was not enough, Fischer has the audacity to say, “Even today in America, it is chic in some homosexual circles for individuals to wear replicas of Nazi Germany uniforms, complete with iron crosses, storm trooper outfits, military boots and even swastikas.”

“Some parts of the American Nazi movement are explicitly homosexual. The National Socialist League, in fact, at last word restricts its membership to homosexual Nazis,” says Fischer.

Yet in almost the same breath, it is Fischer himself who says “Those who do not study history are condemned to repeat it. Nazi Germany became the horror that it was because it rejected both Christianity and its clear teaching about human sexuality. These are mistakes no sane culture should ever make again.”

Fischer is espousing the same brand of ignorance and hatred that allowed the Holocaust to happen in the first place.

This is hate speech plain and simple and it is hate speech that often encourages and precipitates hate crime. We all feel a chill down our collective spines when we hear the threatening words “hey faggot” or “hey dyke,” The probability of what will come next is a bashing or worse.

What is so utterly mind boggling is Fischer’s brazen hypocrisy that seems to continue to go unchallenged by local media and community leaders. Here is a man who claims to love God and to follow Jesus yet thinks is it perfectly acceptable to incite hatred and bigotry against a group of people he obviously knows nothing about.

Fischer concludes his anti-gay diatribe telling his minions that Lively, “will address [the conference with] some of the lessons we must learn from Nazi Germany and its disastrous embrace of homosexuality.”

What Fischer and Lively seem to be suggesting with their thinly veiled extremist propaganda, is it is ok to invalidate our very existence, prohibit and violate our civil rights or worse.

Making the claim that homosexuals are Nazis and Nazi’s are homosexuals, that Nazi’s committed horrible atrocities against humanity, then by extension, homosexuals must be the enemy.

What do we do to our enemies that threaten our very way of life? We marginalize them, isolate them, go to war with them and eventually kill them.

These men and their disciples would, in a heartbeat, corral LGBT people into camps if they could get away with. It is people like Bryan Fischer and Scott Lively who we should be most afraid of. Not gay people, who simply want to live our lives, work and have families in peace like the rest of society.

Fischer says on his website that the Idaho Values Alliance is “Making Idaho the Friendliest Place in the world to raise a family.”

For whose family? Not mine!
